Two Moons

I’m excited about giving a presentation to the Astronomical Society, showing my daguerreotype photographs of the Moon.

The telescope, what a marvellous invention. Its clear, curved lenses refract light and bring something far away, close enough to feel touchable, like my neighbour through the window. Spying, I’d taken a picture of Mademoiselle Bellaire’s derriere. My little secret.

On arrival, I find the Society has provided an assistant. Excellent. I can concentrate on my speech while he sorts the daguerreotypes.

Uproarious laughter greets the first. “Professor, we weren’t expecting this orb.”

I look up at Mlle. Bellaire’s shining full moon. Secret’s out!
